Location
Anguilla is located in the Eastern Caribbean and situated as the most northerly of the Leeward Islands which includes the nearby neighbors of St. Martin and St. Barths. Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory with a population of some 12,000. The Island itself is 16 miles long and 3 miles at her widest point.
Currency
The official currency in Anguilla is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) Dollar although the US Dollar is universally accepted. The exchange rate is fixed at approximately 2.68 EC Dollars to 1 US Dollar. Essentially all restaurants, bars and hotels list prices and expect payment in US Dollars. Most locally operated stores, including supermarkets, list prices in EC Dollars but accept both US and EC Dollars. ATMs are available throughout the island. The majority of restaurants and supermarkets accept VISA, Master Card and AMEX.
How to get to Anguilla
Flights to Anguilla (AXA) are available from many major US airports via San Juan (SJU) on American Airlines and American Eagle which operates daily flights between San Juan and Anguilla.
The Anguilla airport also receives daily flights from St. Thomas (STT) and Antigua (ANU) by Liat Airlines. St. Thomas is serviced non-stop from several US cities while Antigua receives daily direct flights from London on both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
Anguilla is only a 22 minute boat ride from St. Martin (SXM), which receives direct non-stop flights from New York through American , Continental & Jet Blue; Atlanta with Delta, Charlotte with USAir Philadelphia with USAir; Chicago with United, Washington DC with United, Paris with Air France, Amsterdam with KLM
Transfer from St. Martin is available via regular ferry service that runs every 30-45 minutes from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Private Charter Boats and Flights are also available directly from the Airport. Getting Around
Taxis are readily available at both the Airport and Ferry Terminal. Arriving visitors are required to transfer to their hotel or villa by Taxi - Kamique Concierge will meet you upon arrival and coordinate your transfer.
While taxis are available on call, Kamique recommends renting a car as the best means for getting around and seeing the Island. Your concierge can organize your rental car prior to your stay with us and have the car ready at your villa upon arrival.
Tipping
Tipping of Taxis and other service providers is appreciated and common. Most Restaurants charge a 10-15% service charge, with many guests adding a small additional amount in the case of good service. Some restaurants do not include this charge, so please inquire at any specific establishment to clarify their practice.
Weather
Anguilla is a dry island with an average annual rainfall of only 35 inches and average monthly temperatures of 80F. The island is continually cooled by prevailing trade winds, with little change of temperature in the summer.

Immigration
A valid passport (with at least 6 months before expiration) is required by all visitors to Anguilla. Visitors are required to have a return or onward ticket. The United States, Canada and Western Europe along with many others, do not require a visa for entry although please advise your concierge if you come from another country so they can confirm whether a visa is required or not. Visa’s outside of Anguilla can be obtained through a UK embassy or consular office. |
